I don't like bugs. I don't like getting dirty. I do NOT camp. And I am not someone who enjoys eating standing up and being greasy. Therefore, I usually avoid food trucks.
But on my way to the gym last Friday, I noticed a sign for a gathering of some Indy food trucks at the high school stadium near our house. Maybe my morning run would even out the french fries and fried zucchini that all of a sudden sounded delish. I called my husband and had him investigate. A couple hours later, we paid our $5 fee to get into "Taste of the Trucks." It is an event to help the high school marching band raise money to be in the Rose Bowl parade! We walked into a pretty cool sight.
There were 15 trucks circled around a giant parking lot. There were people sitting at tables, a dunk tank and a pep band. If we had stayed later, we would have been able to see the marching band perform. Sounds like a happenin' Friday night right? Our toddler is into music right now so that makes it cool in our book!
My husband has to weigh his options before he makes any food decision, so we made our way around the entire circle...very s-l-o-w-l-y.
Much to our excitement, she loved it! She snacked on my husband's black bean burger, ate some fried ravioli and zucchini and danced and sang right along with the pep band. It ended up being a lovely little memory for our family that I will cherish.
ps don't expect to see me in a tent anytime soon...
How about you? Friend or foe of the food truck craze? Any favorites we should all know about?
