Yeah! It is finally ready! My husband has been feeling a bit blue lately. Blah blah economy, blah blah job, etc. I wanted to cheer him up so I created the FREE PRINTABLE "Happy Husband Kit." This kit includes:
• 1 "You are par-fect fore me" golf ball box template that will fit 3 standard golf balls
• 1 fill in the blank menu card
• 1 "1 day/hour free of nagging" gift card
• 1 "I promise to:" fill in the blank gift card

DESIGNERS, BOOKMARK THIS SITE! Holy smokes, I stumbled onto the most AMAZING dieline reference site I have ever seen! The site is Jason Liebig's Flickr photostream and it is chalked FULL of hundreds of flattened {front, side and back visible} new and old packaging dielines. I strolled down marketing memory lane last night for a good two hours! Just put it in slideshow mode and enjoy the large detailed shots of products from a range of categories. Great site to be inspired by grids, typography, branding, color palettes, violators, vintage, etc. Jason...THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK!!!

I am so lucky that I have the opportunity to partner with talented firms who work with amazing clients. If you get a chance, definitely check out Evolve's copy. So funny! Really lends to the personality of the product. You can pick these products up now at Petco.
** I recently had the opportunity to test how well these products actually work. Thanks to my dog, I can personally attest to the strength of "dang."

Discovered via The Dieline, Vanity Barcodes is founded/designed/managed by the geniuses that are Reuben Miller {Share Some Candy} and Yael Miller {The Dieline and Miller Creative LLC}. I have been a package designer for 10 years. I have seen a lot of techniques, design styles and bells and whistles. Vanity Barcodes is such a simple and effective memory device for the consumer. Just a little something extra to help them remember a specific brand. Vanity Barcodes offers both stock and custom designs. They also offer multiple barcode testing and scan compliance. Genius.

I am so excited to announce that the Vale Design Paper Goods shop is now finch&hawk paper goods! Same great unique packaging printables, paper goods and customer service as before!
Ever since I decided to open an online shop, I have been searching for that perfect name, something that would reflect me in just a couple of words and stand out in the stationery field. One day while driving, looking for hawks up in the trees, {a favorite past time of mine} it came to me! Why not combine my two favorite birds?! These two birds hold a special place in my heart and family and friends always associate them with me. It just made sense.
I designed the logo about a month ago and have been waiting for the trademark and registration to go through. Thank you all for your previous support of the Vale Design shop and we look forward to seeing you over at finch&hawk! Here are a couple of new products and there will be more coming soon!
Introducing the Printable DIY Gable Box - Scroll - Customizable Colors
We will now be offering the PainInTheGroceries list notepad as a SINGLE offering as well as the 2 PACK. Please read the listings carefully!
**ps I will be leaving the Vale Design shop on vacation mode so you will be able to read customer feedback.

I am so excited for this project to launch! Two of my friends, Maddy from Inspired Bride and Kristen from Paper Crave, are collaborating on an online wedding magazine titled Nonpareil. These two talented ladies/bloggers have beautiful and informative sites respectively and I can not wait to see what happens when the two of them put their heads together!
From Paper Crave "As Maddy has said, “Nonpareil is not just another wedding magazine with pretty imagery.” Yes, there will be plenty of gorgeous pictures for you to pore over (yay!), but our goal is to be a trusted friend and advisor as you’re planning your wedding or special event. We’ll be focusing on inspirational craft and do it yourself projects and tips and tricks that you can translate and customize for your special day, regardless of your budget or skill level."
Make sure you are first in the know by signing up for their mailing list here and follow them on Twitter. Good luck ladies! Happy Friday everyone. See you back here on Monday!

It is now officially December and holiday shipping is at hand. The United States Postal Service website is a plethora of information and is chalked full of helpful tools for this season's holiday shipping. I have been visiting the post office a lot lately for the Vale Design Paper Goods shop and I have had to educate myself very quickly to the USPS inner workings. They are making shipping so much easier and user friendly, plus the workers at my local branch have been very supportive of my business and extremely helpful. Here are a couple of online tools that may make your holiday shipping less stressful.
• Buy stamps online {no more waiting in line!}
• Priority Mail boxes - If it fits, it ships! {This shipping method has become my favorite. Boxes are well made and secure. Free boxes and set pricing is the way to go! Please note that price increases slightly for international shipping and there is an international weight limit.}
• Print Click-N-Ship® shipping labels from home {yet another way to avoid lines! Check online system requirements.}
• Some branches are open 24 hours and have Automated Postal Centers. {yet a third way to avoid lines! See a trend here?!}
Above is the USPS December Holiday shipping calendar. For a by Christmas delivery, they recommend having USA packages mailed by December 14th or 15th. For international, have packages sent by December 8th or 9th. The Vale Design Paper Goods shop will be following these dates for shipping. All items requiring shipping that are purchased or shipped after these dates, if requested by buyer, will have additional rush charges. This excludes any printable PDFs. These can be emailed up to the very last second!
A couple thoughts of advice from me:
1. Be patient while in line during the holidays, with the workers and the people around you. Huffing and puffing about the woman in front of you will NOT move you forward in line any quicker. Take a breath. It is going to be fine :)
2. Be as prepared as you possibly can when it is your turn. The branch workers are required to ask a lot of questions, so be prepared to answer, do you want stamps, does this package contain dangerous goods, tracking, insurance, etc. Do your part to help them do theirs!
Good luck and happy holiday shipping!

I had the wonderful privilege of being able to meet and spend some time with Maddy of Inspired Bride this past weekend. It was an absolute treat! She is smart, funny, and super talented! She shared a little bit about the joint project that she was working on with Bake It Pretty and today she let all of us into their Winter Wonderland! All aspects of this display buffet are laid out and she walks you through every step. These beautiful shots were done by an amazing team. Maddy did the food styling, Michael Haug was the photographer, and Kirki Schultz did the prop styling. Amazing work guys and thank you again Maddy for breakfast! Go Huevos Rancheros!

I finally had some time to view the 2009 Pentaward winners. I love to see which packaging won. The winners are shown by level, by category or by country. {The Kimberly-Clark Kleenex box won Best in Show.} I usually have the site bookmarked as a quick reference guide to all the latest and greatest design. It is also a very good way to start noticing design trends. If you have a chance, stop over and see what amazing work other designers have been up to!

As you know, I am a huge fan of the Craftig site. The creator, Kristen, is a friend of mine and I have been fortunate enough to have seen the site grow from the beginning stages. I had some time to go wandering around the site and was amazed at the crafts that everyone has been submitting. The Sea Glass Candy Tutorial found on Intimate Weddings caught my eye. Imagine the possibilities! You can change the flavor and color for any of the upcoming holidays or for any wedding or personal event. Orange and black, orange and brown, red and green or even a wintery blue mix. Place in cute packaging and give these away as homemade gifts, spruce up a holiday party, or use as party favors. The possibilities are endless! My husband is already asking if we can make some root beer candy. Keep sharing your great ideas everyone!

It seems like everyone and their mother has a blog now-a-days, myself included. It is how and what you choose to do with your blog that sets you apart from others. I choose to use mine as the face of my freelance design business...with maybe a picture of my office dog or two! However, even the big design guys are getting into blogging. As a freelancer, I am always interested in setting my personal design bar very high. I measure what I release to my clients against what I envision that the "Top" design companies would release to theirs. I always wonder, "What would they do? How would they go about this project? What was their thinking behind this design?" Now I can be privy to that knowledge! Landor, Sterling Brands, and Hornall Anderson {to name a few} have blogs. What an amazing opportunity for the rest of us to learn from their knowledge and experience. I also follow Landor and Sterling Brands on Twitter. To these "Top" companies, thank you for opening the doors, sharing and pushing the rest of us to work harder and design better!

As we know, I am a huge fan of Brand Packaging Magazine. For a package designer, this is a great informational and visual resource and it is FREE! They have wonderful articles, are up to speed in all the latest design trends and keep you informed on national design conferences. This magazine is offered in both traditional paper form and a digital version. I prefer the paper version. {Don't worry, I recycle them when I am finished.} However, I was missing my August issue and I needed some design inspiration ASAP for my latest freelance projects. I went to their site and was very happy and surprised by the digital version of the magazine. The images are clear and it lets you zoom in very tight...plus it makes the cutest "turn the page" noise. If you are in a pinch and need a quick resource, definitely bookmark their site. You can also follow them on Twitter.

Let me tell you why I am obsessed with Target, besides the obvious reasons of wide aisles and good lighting. I received something in the mail Saturday morning that made my love turn into obsession. It is a small 5.5"x8" saddle stitch mailer. If you have not noticed yet, Target has changed the look of their in-store brand. It is called up&up and it is marked with the colorful arrows you see above. This little mailer is a brand introduction, philosophy, reassurance of value and reliability, and is full of coupons {the backs have color coordinating arrows and product shots}. Plus, the dang thing is just so visually appealing! They made a design decision to make a revolutionary move instead of evolutionary and they are helping their consumers through the process. Now that is what I call brand management! THEY ARE SO SMART!

**No kick backs were received from the writing of this piece :) It just comes from love.
